Hidden in the mountains of Ibaraki, we discovered an abandoned temple. In 2002, a fraudulent religious cult was shut down and this place was abandoned. There remained a temple filled with abandoned spirit tablets, or ihai. Spirit tablets are used during the ceremony of Buddhist funerals. During several rites, people used it to honor the departed soul which resides inside, each of them represents the soul of a deceased person. All the building sits in a quiet area. Another room contained a bed and a collection of bras and garter belts, strewn across the walls and ceiling. There is a small naked doll nailed to the wall and photos of a smiling woman. A mysterious place.
