Two urbex explorers wearing animal masks crouching in tall overgrown grass before the abandoned Vinko Pintaric University, the long zinc-clad brutalist facade looming behind them — urbex creative portrait derelict Yugoslav school

Vinko Pintarić University – Josip Broz Tito Political School

The Politička Škola Josip Broz Tito was once a prestigious center of learning for young communists in the region. Founded during the Yugoslav era, the school was dedicated to teaching politics, history, and economics according to communist ideologies. The school’s buildings were imposing and modern, reflecting the architecture of that time.

However, following the fall of the Soviet Union and the collapse of the Yugoslav economy, the school was abandoned. Over the years, the buildings have fallen into decay—overrun by vegetation, with moldy walls and shattered windows. Graffiti and tags now cover the walls, bearing witness to the site’s neglect. It stands today as a derelict space, a testament to history and the bygone era of communist ideology.

What a joy it was to explore such a place! It has clearly been in our Top 10 since the very beginning of our career as explorers. To us, it represents the ultimate illustration of Urbex: a direct confrontation with nature as it fights to reclaim its rights. We spent hours roaming the corridors, rooms, and the amphitheater, trying to turn back the hands of time.
