We are in the city of Izu, located in Shizuoka Prefecture, to discover a hotel that has been abandoned for about twenty years now. The weather isn’t exactly encouraging us to get out of the car—the conditions are disastrous with this torrential rain. The only advantage we can draw from this situation is that there is absolutely no one outside, so we’ll be able to slip inside the hotel without risking getting caught red-handed. Without any difficulty, finding the main door wide open, we walk into a greenish-colored entrance hall. Lovers of good taste, good evening.
The place is quite dangerous; we didn’t even attempt to access the second floor, which threatens to collapse under our feet. We will settle for exploring the ground floor, where there is still a small gym with a ping-pong table, a lounge with several armchairs, and a lovely bathroom. The location isn’t anything extraordinary—a quick thirty-minute tour is more than enough to get a feel for this hotel.

We headed to the small Japanese island of Hachijō-jima to explore a long-time dream: the Hachijo Royal Resort, one of the most beautiful abandoned palaces in the world. We took the hour-long flight from Tokyo with a knot in our stomachs, terrified the expedition might fail. The island felt deserted, completely off the tourist trail,…
Approaching this abandoned Japanese amusement park, hidden away in Miyagi Prefecture, offers a surreal sight: a massive, multicolored Ferris wheel emerging from the untamed vegetation. This iconic metal structure, now entirely paralyzed and shedding heavy flakes of rust-eaten paint, stands as a silent sentinel over the rest of the grounds. Venturing deeper through the overgrown…
Nearsighted or farsighted, here is a forgotten place that might just strike a chord with you: an abandoned ophthalmology clinic, no less. A little gem located near a very busy road in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. We carefully explore this unusual derelict spot, where every single corner feels like a fragment of history to be studied….
The exploration of this isolated Japanese clinic in Hokkaido begins in front of a multi-story building whose reddish facade is peeling heavily under the harsh winter climate. The main entrance, half-buried beneath thick snowdrifts, opens into an interior that immediately plunges the visitor into an icy atmosphere. The extreme cold has literally transformed the place:…
This is the final report from our 2017 Japanese urbex road trip—and it features a location I will never forget, as I still bear the scar from it to this day. We are in Gunma Prefecture, where a sort of holiday camp sits right next to a very busy road. You can’t miss it; there…
Built in 1909, the Bellevue Hotel is now nothing more than a smoldering shell. The victim of a fire shortly before our exploration, this site located in the Slovenian capital offers a panoramic view overlooking Ljubljana. A true institution, the property changed hands many times before its final abandonment in 2009.
