Magic Movie Park – Abandoned shopping mall

Born in the early 2000s, “Magic Movie Park” (often renamed the Picchioni Shopping Center by explorers), located between Muggiò and Nova Milanese in Lombardy, was intended to be a project of pharaonic proportions. This massive complex, spanning over 21,000 square meters, housed both an ultra-modern multiplex cinema and what was meant to become one of the largest Chinese wholesale markets in Europe. However, hidden behind this oversized ambition were disastrous management, debts totaling tens of millions of euros, and dark ties to the ‘Ndrangheta mafia. Inaugurated in 2001, this concrete colossus closed its doors for good in 2006, sinking into a state of brutal abandonment.

Stepping inside this behemoth of steel and cement offers a striking post-apocalyptic vision. Right from the entrance, the sheer immensity of the space hits you full force. The vast central hall and the former corridors of the mega-bazaar are unrecognizable, transformed into a chaos of rubble, collapsed false ceilings, and metal structures ruthlessly stripped by copper thieves.

The walk takes on an even more dramatic dimension in the heart of the former screening rooms, which ironically bore the names of paradise destinations like Panarea, Hawaii, or Ischia. Exploration reveals ghostly tiers where rows of seats have been torn out, vandalized, or covered in a thick layer of dust. The giant screens are shredded, giving way to the massive, colorful graffiti that now blankets every wall. Escalators frozen by rust and shopfronts with shattered windows bear witness to the violence of the decay, plunging the entire structure into a grim and icy gloom.

After more than a decade and a half of degradation, looting, and squatting, this wasteland—a true symbol of real estate excess and organized crime—has finally reached its epilogue. Purchased by the municipality, the cursed structure was recently demolished to make way for a large public park, erasing from the horizon the scars of this Italian mirage of entertainment.
