Urban explorer wearing a hare mask lying on the cracked tarmac parade ground of Fritz Haarmann Kaserne, derelict red-brick barracks blocks looming in the background — urbex self-portrait at abandoned German military base

Haarmann Military Barracks

Spanning over 350 hectares, this German military camp was abandoned in 1995. It is a vast, derelict site—an exploration that stretches as far as the eye can see. Surrounding immense, asphalt courtyards pierced by moss and wild weeds rise massive, austere brick and concrete buildings with countless broken windows. The decay here is spectacular: old, sunlit barracks rot in the middle of the brush, and the wooden framework of an imposing building—featuring an arched entrance bordered in red and white—has completely collapsed into a massive pile of debris. In this post-apocalyptic setting, soldiers have given way to urban artists who have claimed the crumbling walls as their own canvas.
